- Q. How do I upgrade? What do I have to go through?
- A. Grade 9 refs should take the "bridge course" to move
up to Grade 8.
- For grades 7, 6 & 5 upgrades, feel free to phone your ARA. In the
meantime, you can check out the web site Home page for the basic information.
- Laws of the Game & Policy -- This link includes the Administrative
handbook. it outlines everything you need to know.
- Referees -- This link tells you whether you qualify
for an assessment, and allows you to formally request upgrade and check
previous assessments
- Courses -- This link allows you to register for the 7 to 6 upgrade
course. It's a requirement, and comes only once a year. Grade 8 to 7
course can
be scheduled by your DRA. Grade 6 to 5 is at the State Recert course and
requires a special written exam. You must notify your ARA of your intent
beforehand.
- There's also the "experience" factor, such as where have you been
seen, what have you done for your advancement, etc. This is such things as
State Final 4, ODP, Regionals, Nationals, Tournaments, etc. That's best
discussed one on one with your ARA.
- For National and higher, contact the State Referee Administrator after
you read the Administrative Manual Supplement.
- Basic requirements include:
- Time in grade
- Upgrade course
- Assessments
- Minimum age
- And what many forget, File the form!
- Q. How do I prove that I attended an upgrade course?
- A. The same way that the ARA verifies your attendance.
Check the web site. The Home page link "courses" lists course results for
the state recert and for upgrade classes for 2 years. Also, keep the pink copy of your upgrade
registration form, after it is signed. That is your "receipt" for
certification. Your cancelled check is your proof of payment. Hang on to
these at least until you receive your card from USSF.
